FEMA Flood Certificate /
Flood Zone Determination

This is a cursory review to determine if a property is burdened by a flood hazard. This review is based upon FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM). Particular laws mandate that lenders evaluate a property that is secured by a loan to determine if flood insurance is required.

Elevation Certificate

Sometimes to appropriately determine the amount of flooding and/or risk a particular property has, the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) requires that an Elevation Certificate be completed by a Land Surveyor. This certificate is a field survey that measures the height (elevation) of the property in relation to the Base Flood Elevation (BFE) of a Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA).
